Shoe store collects socks for troops

SIDNEY — Shoe Sensation, 2350 Michigan St., is collecting new socks for military troops.

Assistant Manager Ashleigh Deardurff, of Belle Center, said the donations can be placed in a decorated box at the check-out counter inside the store.

“If (donors) purchase at Shoe Sensation, they’ll get a 20 percent discount on the socks to be donated,” she said. Their names will be entered into a drawing for a $20 gift card. But socks don’t have to be purchased there to be accepted.

“If people bring in socks they purchased somewhere else, we’ll still take them,” Deardurff said.

The drive will continue through Dec. 24. Corporate wide, there is a goal of collecting 7,000 pairs of socks. Deardurff said about 100 pairs have been sold at the Sidney store so far. This is the first year that the local business has participated in the drive.

“It means a lot to me that they’re doing it, because my husband’s in the Army,” Deardurff said.

Socks can be purchased or dropped off during regular business hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday.
