SIDNEY — Sidney’s bowling teams swept Piqua on Friday night at Bel-Mar Lanes to earn the school another point in the all-sports trophy race.

Sidney’s boys team beats the Indians 2,515-2,154 while the girls won 1,547-1,469. Each team’s wins are worth a half point toward the Piqua vs. Sidney all-sports award. With Friday’s wins, the Yellow Jackets have an 8.5-4.5 lead over Piqua.

The boys improved to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference American North Division with the win. Austin Simon led the team with a 466 series. Jaxon Rickey had a 463 series, Lucas Finke had a 416 series and Harrison Fisher had a lone game of a 278.

“We really struggled the first game tonight,” Sidney coach Trent Knoop said. “We only had a 909 our first game, and was only up 16 pins going into the second team game. But, we made some great adjustments and was able to roll a 1,203 our second team game.

“The boys capitalized when they needed to, and we were able to have smooth sailing going to the baker games. It was a good win tonight, and now we have ourselves set up nicely going into Butler on Monday night.”

The girls improved to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the North with the victory. Jenna Beatty led the team with a 330 series, Courtney Bridenbaugh had a 294 series and Camryn Smith had a 283 series.

“This was a very good win for us tonight,” Knoop said. “Not only is Piqua a big rival, but they are right there with us in the standings. So, it was a great win for the girls.

“It was a very tight match all the way through, and we were able to make the better shot at the right time. Hopefully this showing will continue to build confidence, and make us a stronger team going forward.”

The two schools are competing for an all-sports trophy for the first time this season, and the winner will be determined by a points system.

In sports where the schools play each other twice, half a point is awarded for each game, while one point is awarded for sports where the schools play each other once.

The bowling teams will face off again on Feb. 6 at Brel-Aire Lanes in Piqua.
