Communicate with our creator, our Heavenly Father

Have you ever thought or said, “I wish that would happen to me”? For example, someone got this, or they got that, and look how happy they are; I wish God would do that for me!

There is a story of a man of God that felt that same way, Elijah, and we can see this in the book of 1 Kings 19:9. “And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” In 1 Kings 19:10 he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they seek to take my life.” Then in 1 Kings 19:11 He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; (1 Kings 19:12) and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.”

I see that God is saying to Elijah that He is going to speak to him the way his heart is going to hear from God! With the wind, God parted the Red Sea for Moses; with the earthquake, God brought down the walls for Joshua; in the burning bush God spoke to Moses, and Elijah was seeking God hard with zeal because he feared for his life. The voice of the Lord came to Elijah in a little small voice! God is showing us how important it is to have a personal relationship with Him because He wants to speak to us. We all are different, and God is going to use what will effectively speak to us. We have to seek Him as full heartedly as in a relationship we would have on this earth. God in His Holy Bible shows how He speaks to others so we can be encouraged. We can take the necessary steps to hear our Heavenly Father in the way that would be best for us to understand.

But I also fear that God can speak to us to change something, and we hear and hear, but we go on doing what we want, and trouble awaits us. Listening but not doing will harden our hearts until we are not able to hear from God. That is what sin does; it separates us from God. We can be excommunicated, abandoned, left all alone, but nothing can separate us from the love of God through Christ Jesus. It’s our choice to have a relationship with God. We see this with Adam and Eve where they heard God walking in the garden, and they hid because they had sinned. God called out, and they chose to listen to God and to tell Him what they did wrong (repentance), and God provided a covering that would protect them because of their sin. (Genesis 3)

That is why God sent Jesus to protect us with His blood to pay the price of our sins by nailing them on the cross. Our lies, our lusting, and cheating — Jesus bears the weight of our mess-ups; our comparisons attitude that only takes us away from what God called us to do! To compare is not wise according to the Holy Bible in 2 Corinthians 10: 12. We can’t be like anyone else, for God made us, to be us! Seeking what this life is all about, will be found by having a personal relationship through Christ Jesus — to be able to communicate with our creator, our Heavenly Father.
