SIDNEY — Holy Angels Church Outreach Committee will host its sixth annual Fair Trade and More Christmas Boutique, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Ross Historical Center, 201 N. Main Ave.
Proceeds will benefit marginalized and struggling people around the world, including in the U.S.A.
This sale offers unique, handmade items from more than 30 countries. Artisans receive a fair wage for their work. Proceeds also support safe water projects, health facilities and schools. Fair trade is a system focused on alleviating global poverty through ethical trade with disadvantaged producers.
Many items for babies and many items under $10 will make perfect stocking stuffers.
Fair trade coffee (18 types), 16 teas, a variety of chocolate and soups, cookie mixes and even dog treats along with an assortment of unique Christmas ornaments and decor, home and kitchen decor, jewelry and cinnamon rolls will be available. Pumpkin rolls and Mother Brunner bread, an artisan bread developed by St. Henry Bake Shoppe to honor Mother Brunner, founder of the Sisters of the Precious Blood, will be sold.
The focus of this year’s sale is on women’s products. Empowering disadvantaged and underemployed women not only benefits them but also increases the health and educational opportunities for their children. Upavim (United for a Better Life) in an impoverished area of Guatemala, Global Mamas in Ghana, Africa, and Women’s Bean Project in Denver all work with the women on soft job skills, do job training, help with housing and child care and help the women to devlop skills so that they can be independent. Women’s Bean Project produces many kinds of soups, popcorn, individual meals and more. Upavim and Global Mamas create a wide variety of products.
“And More” is another part of the sale. These items are made by local artisans. All proceeds from the sale of these items supports the Wrapped in God’s Love Committee.
And More items will include Christmas table runners, hot pads, kids’ super hero capes, kids’ craft aprons, purses and lots more.
There will also be a raffle of handcrafted items by a local woodworker.
