NEW BREMEN — The Ohio Wheelmen will host a one-day family-oriented event focusing on bicycling history. Everyone is encouraged to attend the memorabilia meet on March 20, 2021, at the New Bremen American Legion Hall Post 241 located at 6458 State Route 66, New Bremen. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The doors will open at 8 a.m. with a $2 entry fee and free parking. There will be a large area for bicycle displays and memorabilia display tables. Swap spaces will be available inside and outside with additional charge and advanced registration.

A presentation on the topic of Canal History and Ohio Bicycle Trails will be at 10:30 a.m. by the Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association (MECCA). The Bicycle Museum of America (located at 7 W. Monroe St., New Bremen, OH) will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free admission.

The Wheelmen is a national and international, non-profit organization dedicated to keeping alive the heritage of American cycling, promoting the restoration and riding of early cycles manufactured in and before 1932, and encouraging cycling as part of modern living. Members are intent on learning lost skills, retelling stories, researching and writing of the golden era of cycling.

The Wheelmen organization is broken into state groups each of which conduct meets and parades during the year. Since 1977, the Ohio Wheelmen have conducted a winter memorabilia meet in western Ohio for members to showcase, discuss, and trade their memorabilia to other members and to the general public.

In early years, the memorabilia meet venue varied year-by-year, but from 2010 through 2019, the Meet was hosted by the Bicycle Museum of America in New Bremen, Ohio. New Bremen has been a central location for the majority of attendees who come from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and occasionally other states and Ontario, Canada. As with so many other activities suffered in 2020, the meeting was called due to the COVID pandemic.

Questions and reservations for display table or swap meet space for this event may be addressed to Dan Gaier at 937-570-9445 or [email protected]. For more information about The Wheelmen, consult the website, http://ohiowheelmen.org/homepage.html or https://www.facebook.com/groups/56103504888.
