Carter’s Comfort brings support to families of angel babies

ST. MARYS — The Joint Township District Hospital Foundation was a recipient of 25 hand-sewn blankets for the Grand Lake Birthing Center, donated by Megan and Thomas Leidy.

Megan and Thomas gifted the foundation with the blankets in honor of their son Carter, who was born still at 34 weeks on June 25, 2019. Megan said it was through their loss, and the caring support of others, that they knew that they wanted to do something to keep Carter’s memory alive and help other parents experiencing this type of loss.

Megan and Thomas shared how they cherish the keepsakes they have of Carter, and knew they wanted to provide families with something that would serve as a memory of their child gone too soon.

“This is how Carter’s Comfort was born,” Megan said.

In order to make the blankets, Megan had to learn to sew. It was important to Megan and Thomas that every blanket be handmade. They wanted a little bit of Carter in everything they did, including the blankets.

“We hope parents will wrap their child up in our blanket and take the blanket home with them as a very special item of remembrance, something to hold throughout their grief and a treasure to keep forever,” Megan said.

According to Birthing Manager Amy Becker, the blankets will provide a special way to comfort patients and honor Carter at the same time.

“We appreciate so much that Megan and Thomas thought of JTDMH to donate their handmade baby blankets. Patients experiencing a loss will receive this gift of support from parents who have also been there,” Becker said.

Carter’s Comfort provides handmade blankets to parents, hospitals, doctor’s offices and organizations. To learn more about Thomas and Megan’s story, Carter’s Comfort, visit carterscomfort.com.
