Schwan’s discontinues MaMa Rosa’s brand of pizzas

SIDNEY – Schwan’s Co. will retain all of its employees in Sidney even though the company discontinued its MaMa Rosa’s brand of pizzas, which were made exclusively in Sidney.

“Because of the prolonged impact of COVID-19 and our continued focus on the production of our most popular items, we made the difficult but critical decision at the end of last year to discontinue items made under the MaMa Rosa label,” a statement from Schwan’s states.

The 158,000-square-foot production facility in Sidney, which only makes pizzas, has shifted to producing other Schwan’s brands. The company also owns Red Baron Pizza, Freschetta and Tony’s Pizza.

“This has not impacted our people or production at our facility,” the statement from the company states. “We remain committed to our operations in Sidney, and the team continues to make pizzas for our other brands, such as Red Baron pizza.”

The MaMa Rosa’s social media accounts describe the brand as the country’s No. 1 selling refrigerated pizza. However, a company spokesman said Schwan’s hasn’t focused on refrigerated pizza for a few years as frozen pizza makes up a much larger portion of the company’s sales.
