SIDNEY – A man was sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of gross sexual imposition, a third degree felony, in Shelby County Common Pleas Court.

Daniel L. Murphy, 40, at large, pleaded guilty Jan. 15 to the charge of gross sexual imposition. As part of a plea deal, another charge of gross sexual imposition, also a third degree felony, and two charges of kidnapping, both first degree felonies, were dropped.

In October, Murphy was indicted on charges of restraining and molesting an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy.

Murphy, who now is labeled a Tier II sex offender, was granted credit for 109 days served in jail.

After his term at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Murphy will be required to serve five years of probation. He also was ordered to pay $776.11 in court costs.

In other actions:

• Alysia A. Canales, 21, of Defiance, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for a probation violation stemming from a charge of aggravated trafficking in drugs, a fourth degree felony.

• Tyler L. McFadden, 32, of Sidney, was sentenced to one year in prison for a probation violation stemming from a charge of trafficking in drugs, a fifth degree felony.

• Tyler L. Sanchez, 27, of Sidney, was ordered to successfully complete a program at the Western Ohio Regional Treatment and Habilitation Center or another community based correctional facility. Sanchez was found to have violated his probation stemming from a charge of aggravated assault, a fourth degree felony.

• Jace R. Conrad, 20, of Sidney, was sentenced to up to five years of probation on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, a first degree misdemeanor, using a weapon while intoxicated, a first degree misdemeanor, and having physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated, a first degree misdemeanor. He also must complete drug and alcohol counseling, had his driver’s license suspended for six months and was ordered to pay $636.52 in court costs. The Sidney Police Department was authorized to destroy a Taurus G2s 9mm pistol.
