PLATTSVILLE — A Plattsville home was destroyed by a Tuesday evening fire on West Lane Street.

Fletcher Fire Chief Tony Bensman confirmed fire crews was called to 18922 W. Lane St. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 4:15 p.m. after a neighbor reported a structure fire.

“Flames were coming out of three or four windows when I got there,” Bensman said. “The last unit to leave last night was at 11 (p.m.) and were called back this morning at 6 (a.m.) for a rekindle.”

He said they are still working through what happened and the cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious.

The male resident of the house left for work at 9:30 a.m. that morning and was not home at the time the fire was reported. Four of his dogs were killed in the fire, Bensman said. No other injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross was called to help the male who has been displaced. Bensman said The Salvation Army was also called to the scene to provide canteen services for the firefighters.

Also called to assist Fletcher Fire at the scene was Sidney and Port Jefferson, Lockington, Rosewood and Quincy Fire Departments.

The total loss amount for the house has been set at $50,000, and $15,000 for contents.
