SIDNEY — A Kentucky woman who was reported missing by her son, a Sidney resident, on Thursday, Jan. 6, has been located unharmed.

Shirley Shoemaker, 64, of Frankort, Kentucky, had not been heard from since Jan. 3, according to a report from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Her son called Kentucky law enforcement to report his mother missing and was told he should file the report locally first. The report from the sheriff’s office said Shoemaker’s son was informed by his mother’s co-worker she had called in to work and had not been seen or heard from since.

Shoemaker was believed to be with her boyfriend, Kenneth Strange, 55, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, who was a murder suspect, in her 2019 black Jeep Renegade.

According to the Nicholasville Police Department’s Facebook page, on Sunday, Jan. 9, officers with the Lake Wales, Florida Police Department were working with Nicholasville Police detectives and U.S. Marshal task force agents in an attempt to apprehend Strange. During the investigation, Lake Wales officers located Strange at a fuel station in Lake Wales. As officers approached Strange, he pulled out a firearm and took his own life.

“Officers with Lake Wales Police Department advised (Nicholasville Police) they located Shirley Shoemaker in the vehicle and she is doing OK,” the Nicholasville Police Department’s Facebook post said. “She was unharmed and is speaking with law enforcement about the incident. At this time all agencies involved are working together to continue with the investigation. …”

Nicholasville Police said on their Facebook page that as more information becomes available, they will provide an update.
