Spirit Emergency Medical Services weekly log

Nov. 6-12

According to Brian K. Hathaway, Spirit EMS president/CEO, Spirit EMS responded to 11 emergency medical dispatches from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatch center. That’s three more than the week prior.

Four of the 11 calls were in the Houston EMS district which includes Loramie and Washington townships including the village of Lockington and excluding the village of Russia. There were four dispatches in the Perry Port Salem district, which includes all of Salem and Perry townships including the village of Port Jefferson.

Three of the five patients were transported to the hospital from scenes in the Houston district. Two patients refused transport after being evaluated by EMS personnel. One of the patients to refuse transport was the passenger in a vehicle that crashed causing serious injuries to the driver. Spirit EMS was assisted at that scene by Lockington Fire, Care Flight, Shelby County deputies and troopers from the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Patrol. The driver of that vehicle was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by Care Flight.

In the Perry Port Salem district, both Spirit EMS and Perry Port Salem Rescue were dispatched to seven calls. Spirit EMS and Perry Port Salem Rescue responded to all seven calls. Six patients were transported to the hospital, all by Perry Port Salem Rescue. Shelby County deputies assisted both EMS agencies at two scenes. One scene in which deputies responded was a reported injury crash. The scene couldn’t be located by responding agencies, including Maplewood Fire.

Of the nine patients transported last week, seven were transported to Wilson Health, one to Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy and one to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by Care Flight.

Spirit EMS responded to 100% of its dispatches last week.
