Funds will assist with expansion

SIDNEY — Samaritan Works provides assistance for those beginning their journey of living a sober lifestyle and continuing recovery from addiction in a safe, compassionate and healing environment. The faith-based organization will use Community Foundation Match Day gifts to add furniture to its houses, curriculum for participants, training for peer support specialists and drug and alcohol awareness for local students.

“Our men’s house has been full and our women’s house is near capacity. Part of our proceeds will go to purchase an additional bed and dresser for each house to allow for a slight expansion,” said Tricia Alloway, executive director. “Secondly, we want to expand our faith-filled curriculum with classes on budgeting, employment readiness, healthy relationships, coping and healthy lifestyles. Our goal is to provide the tools to be more successful in remaining sober. These supports greatly affect outcomes.

“We want to train two program graduates as peer support specialists who can help guide and support participant recovery. Finally, we want to purchase an evidence-based drug and alcohol awareness curriculum that would be presented by our staff to schools in Shelby County.”

To support Samaritan Works on Match Day, gifts must be made payable to the Community Foundation of Shelby County with: Match/ Samaritan Works noted on the memo or in an accompanying note or form. Details and forms are available at the Community Foundation website at commfoun.com and at the Samaritan Works office at 315 E. Court St, Sidney. Gifts must be received on or before Nov. 29 to be eligible for matching money. Credit card gifts may be made only on Nov. 29.

The Community Foundation of Shelby County holds its Match Day event annually on Giving Tuesday. This year, 25 local charities will ask supporters to make a gift to the Community Foundation that will be matched up to a total of $5,000 per charity.

Match Day participating organizations have a 501(c)(3) tax status and an organization fund within the Community Foundation of Shelby County with an asset balance exceeding the Foundation’s fund minimum. Gifts received will not be placed into an organization’s fund, but instead will be returned to the organization for its work in the community.
