The Ladies Symphony Orchestra of Boston, a super organization of 20 young ladies, the leading lady instrumentalist of New England, will give a matinee in the Knights of Pythias Hall Friday afternoon under the auspices of Summit Lodge.

The recent finding of oil in paying quantities in Van Buren Township has started the oil fever in that township. Several companies are in the field and several more wells are already being drilled. During the past two weeks, 29 oil leases on land in the township have been recorded. The leases cover 50 to 210 acres each. It is likely additional wells will be put down in the next few weeks.

An exhibit of choice meats and a demonstration of modern methods of slaughtering and handling meats will be given next Wednesday and Thursday at the Sidney Packing Co. between the hours of 2 to 8 p.m.

The first thousand of the 1923 automobile license plates are now in the office of the Shelby County Motor Club. The numbers run from 490,001 to 491,000. The numerals are scarlet on a grey background. License fees are the same as last year – up to 25 horsepower, $8; 25 to 35 horsepower, $12; and above 35 horsepower, $20. License plates are not to be issued until Jan. 1, unless the applicant intends being out of the state on that date.

Following the custom of former years, the members of the City Federation are taking charge of the Christmas wants of the children at the Shelby County Children’s Home.

Local county amateur league officials were completing arrangements today for the upcoming basketball attraction Monday evening which will pit the famous House of David combination against Buck’s Taxi at the Sidney High School gymnasium. The Taxi team is not only undefeated in competition this year but is the defending county champion as well.

Richard Flanagan, former grid star at Sidney High School and Ohio State University, signed to play with the Baltimore Colts of the All-American professional football conference during a scheduled meeting with “Tarzan” Taylor, a Colt representative, here Saturday. Taylor is a one-time Ohio State grid great.

Danny Scott Fergus has been installed as master councilor of the Sidney Chapter, Order of DeMolay. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Forest Fergus, and a senior at Sidney High School. The ceremony was held Dec. 2 in the Masonic Temple.

Not all of the Rudys are red-nosed reindeer. At least one of them happens to be a topnotch kegler in the person of Mrs. Rudy Elson. A veteran of several seasons, Mrs. Elson gained the “600 Club” Thursday night when she came through with a superb 609 aggregate for Bennett Insurance in the Ten Pin League at Bel Mar Lanes.

DUBLIN – Sidney native Virgil Temple has been elected as president of Kinetics Noise Control Inc. of Dublin. Temple, a 1970 Sidney High School graduate, will assume his new duties on Jan. 5.
