Jackson Center earned the No. 1 seed in the Piqua Division IV sectional and could see a familiar opponent in a district semifinal this year.

The Tigers, Russia, Fort Loramie and Botkins earned the top four seeds in the sectional, and all four Shelby County Athletic League teams will try to advance to district semifinals and set up rematches of last year’s semifinals.

Boys tournament draw meetings were held throughout the state on Sunday. Seed voting began online early last week and concluded on Saturday. Results were tallied in preparation for Sunday’s meetings, during which teams placed themselves on their sectionals’ brackets by seed order.

Jackson Center (19-1), which was ranked No. 2 in this week’s Associated Press state Div. IV poll, earned the top seed and opted for the bottom bracket in the Piqua sectional. The Tigers will open tournament play against Bellefontaine Calvary Christian on Feb. 18, then face No. 13 Fairlawn (3-18) on Feb. 23.

With victories in the first two rounds, Jackson Center will advance to a district semifinal on Feb. 25 and could face Fort Loramie for the second straight year. The Tigers beat the Redskins 42-41 on a buzzer-beater in a semifinal last year.

Fort Loramie (15-5) earned the No. 3 seed an opted for the bottom bracket. The Redskins will open postseason play on Feb. 18 against Covington, then will face either Ansonia or Bradford in a second-round game. If victorious, the Redskins will advance to the Feb. 25 district semifinal, likely against Jackson Center.

Russia (18-2), which was ranked No. 4 in this week’s AP state D-IV poll, was voted the No. 2 seed and opted for the top bracket in the Piqua sectional. The Raiders will open tournament play on Feb. 16 against Mississinawa Valley and will face North Lewisburg Triad on Feb. 21.

With wins in the first two rounds, the Raiders will advance to a district semifinal on Feb. 24, and could face off with Botkins in a semifinal for the second consecutive season.

Botkins (11-9) was voted the No. 4 seed and opted for the bottom bracket. The Trojans will face No. 9 Riverside (6-14) in a first-round game on Feb. 17. Lehman Catholic (13-7) was voted the No. 5 seed and will face No. 8 Newton in a sectional opener later the same night.

The Botkins/Riverside and Lehman/Newton winners will advance to a sectional final on Feb. 21. The winner of the sectional final will advance to a district semifinal on Feb. 24, likely against Russia.

All tournament games will be played at Piqua High School’s Garbry Gymnasium.
