Saturday girls basketball roundup: Jackson Center beats Lehman Catholic in tourney opener

SIDNEY — Jackson Center pulled away in the second half and beat Lehman Catholic 37-20 in a Division IV sectional semifinal on Saturday at Sidney High School.

The Tigers led 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and 17-13 at halftime, then outscored the Cavaliers 11-3 in the third and 9-4 in the fourth to pull away.

Presley Reese led Jackson Center (12-11) with 14 points while McKinley Reichert scored 11 and Macy Klopfenstein scored seven.

Mara O’Leary led the Cavaliers with seven points.

Jackson Center, the sectional’s No. 5 seed, advances to face No. 11 Bellefontaine Calvary Christian in a sectional final on Wednesday.

Lehman finishes the season 5-17 overall.

Fort Loramie 70, Fairlawn 18

The Redskins won their tournament opener in lopsided fashion on Saturday in Sidney.

Fort Loramie led 20-4 at the end of the first quarter, 50-8 at halftime and 59-12 at the end of the third quarter.

Skyler Albers led Fort Loramie (21-2) with 15 points, all in the first half. Avery Brandewie scored 12 points and Victoria Mescher scored eight.

Fort Loramie shot 24 for 54 (44 percent) from the floor.

The No. 1 seed Redskins advance to face No. 7 Troy Christian in a sectional final on Wednesday.

Russia 61, Triad 8

The Raiders won their tournament opener in lopsided fashion on Saturday in Sidney.

Russia led 22-0 at the end of the first quarter, 48-1 at halftime and 57-2 at the end of the third quarter.

The No. 2 seed Raiders (19-4) advance to face No. 14 Bradford in a sectional final on Thursday.

Versailles 56, Houston 43

The Wildcats lost their tournament opener on Saturday at Covington High School.

Houston led 22-16 at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers used a 19-3 scoring edge in the second to take a 35-25 halftime lead. Versailles outscored the Wildcats 7-4 in the third quarter. Each squad scored 14 points in the fourth.

Katie Maier led Houston with 12 points while Olivia Burks scored 10.

The Wildcats finish with a 6-17 overall record.
