Driver indicted for fatal Christmas Eve crash

SIDNEY — The Shelby County grand jury issued indictments for aggravated vehicular homicide and felonious assault on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Dayren Rocubert, 29, currently in the Shelby County Jail, was indicted for five counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, a second degree felony, for causing the deaths of three adult female victims, one adult male victim, and the termination of another’s pregnancy, while operating a vehicle.

The Christmas Eve crash on Interstate 75 claimed the lives of four Michigan residents. Killed were Lauren Hahn, 32, Kimberly A. Siegrist, 63, Jeremy Boehn, 32, and Karen M. Boehne, 33.

According to the Piqua Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Rocubert was traveling north in his Freightliner on I-75 when his vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, into the median. The Freightliner went through the cable median barrier and ditch. He entered the southbound lane of I-75, where it struck a 2023 GMC Terrain, operated by Hahn, of Westland, Michigan, and a 2020 Ford F-150, operated by Jeremy D. R. Boehne, 32, Farmington, Michigan.

Hahn, and her occupant, Siegrist,of Brighton, Michigan, succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. Jeremy Boehne succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

Jeremy Boehne’s passenger, Karen M. Boehne, 33, Farmington, Michigan, was transported by ground ambulance to Wilson Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries. She was then transported by air ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital, where she succumbed to fatal injuries.

James M. Loraine, 81, of Sidney, was indicted on one charge of felonious assault, a second degree felony, for stabbing his wife in the neck repeatedly.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Feb. 10, the office received a report of a stabbing through an alarm company due to an activation of a pendant alarm through Life Alert. When deputies arrived at the scene, a grandson of the couple said his grandfather had stabbed his grandmother, Bonnie Loraine. The grandson was able to disarm his grandfather and then pressed the Life Alert button for help.
