Spring brings big projects to the People’s Garden

The People’s Garden at Agape Distribution in Sidney is in urgent need of people who can help with some difficult projects. We started the garden 10 seasons ago and are planning an open house April 22.

Second arch goes up

The second arch is put in place in downtown Sidney on Tuesday, April 4. The arch was placed across Ohio Avenue in front of Amelio’s Pizzeria.

Sidney man finishes 1st in TBF National Championship

Sidney resident Andy Fryer, center, poses with family members after finishing first in The Bass Federation’s National Championship boater category. Fryer amassed 15 fish weighing 48 pounds, 15 ounces in the three-day competition, which occurred March 29 to 31 at Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri. A haul of 19-02 on the third day helped Fryer pull ahead to first place. TBF crowned co-angler and boater national champions. Fifty-one individuals competed in each category; competitors had to qualify in one of 21 district competitions in order to compete in the national championship. As a champion, Fryer earned a TBF “Living your Dream,” package, valued in excess of $125,000 in cash and prizes. The Bass Federation is the oldest and largest organized angling organization in the country. More information can be found at bassfederation.com.

MECCA adds 3 new members

NEW BREMEN — Three new board members were added to the board of the Miami & Erie Canal Corridor Association (MECCA) at their March board meeting. They include city of Sidney Parks & Recreation Director Duane Gaier, Shelby County Commissioner Tony Bornhorst, and Sidney City Councilmember and former Mayor Mike Barhorst.

YMCA raises flag in support of Donate Life

SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA, 300 E. Parkwood St., held a flag raising to raise awareness and support organ, eye and tissue donations during Donate Life Awareness Month this April and invited local YMCA members Jim and Fran Rickey to help raise the Donate Life flag in front of the YMCA.

Newly formed Pickleball Club will play at Custenborder Park

The City of Sidney will be starting the construction of six pickleball courts this spring at Custenborder Park, just off of the northwest corner of the parking lot. Construction is scheduled to be completed in early July.
