9th annual Shelby County Science Day held

ANNA — The Shelby County Science Day was held at Anna Local High School for Shelby County students, grades 5-12 on Thursday, Feb. 1. Students from Anna High School and Jackson Center Middle School completed science research projects and presented their findings to area professionals, researchers, and educators.

Edison State to host RN to BSN Information Fair

PIQUA — Edison State Community College is hosting a Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Information Fair on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Emerson Center at the Piqua Campus. During the event, current nursing students and practicing nurses can learn about the opportunities available to them in pursuing a baccalaureate degree.

Seniors win state Americanism contest

SIDNEY — Christian Academy Schools are congratulating seniors Evan Michael, son of Ted and Janay Michael, of Sidney, and Josalin Morris, daughter of Joe and Amanda Morris, of Botkins, for being state winners of the American Legion’s Americanism and Government Test. Michael’s and Morris’s scores have won them a trip to Washington DC, which they will go on the end of February.

SHS sophomores state winners in American Legion Test

SIDNEY – SHS sophomores Marly Coons and Cartier Thompson are state champions in the American Legion Americanism and Government Test and have earned an all-expense-paid, week-long trip to historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and the nation’s capital, Washington, DC. The American Legion Department of Ohio sponsors the yearly trip taking the top 3 boys and 3 girls in grades 10-12 for a total of only 18 students statewide. The Ohio American Legion Americanism and Government is an opportunity for high school students to evaluate themselves in American government and history through this statewide test program. Over 65,000 students participate annually in this project, which The American Legion Auxiliary jointly sponsors.

Lehman Catholic hosts annual science fair

SIDNEY –– Lehman Catholic High School held its annual science fair on Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the Lachey Family Gymnasium. Forty-nine Lehman Catholic students submitted projects to be exhibited and judged. Thirteen students received superior ratings, qualifying them to participate in the district competition. Students must earn at least 36 out of a possible 40 points to receive a superior rating.

University of Northwestern Ohio dean’s list

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio has announced its dean’s list for the 2024 January session for students in the College of Applied Technologies. Full-time students must receive a grade point average of 3.5 or better to be named to the dean’s list.

Coastal Carolina University dean’s list

CONWAY, S.C. — More than 3,000 undergraduate students at Coastal Carolina University were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2023 semester. Students who make the dean’s list have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher (3.25 for freshmen) for the semester.

Edison State to host FAFSA workshops, open houses

PIQUA — Many students and parents feel anxious about filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To assist applicants through the process, Edison State Community College will host several FAFSA completion sessions. Current students, prospective students, and community members are invited to attend.
