Dear Dietitian,

The Amish Cook column generates a lot of reader mail, as you can imagine. Not nearly as much as it used to before everyone started emailing. One of the more rewarding letters arrived in the early 2000s from a woman in Ohio who was expressing her appreciation for The Amish Cook column over the years, in particular the late Elizabeth Coblentz’s meatloaf recipe.

Every Ohio family and Ohio business should be able to have reliable, high-speed internet. You shouldn’t have to live in a big city or a wealthy suburb to have access to a crucial aspect of modern society and our economy.

At Russell Road Church I have been teaching on the fruit of God’s spirit that is found in Galatians Chapter 5. We have been looking at the fruit of self-control, which is the outcome of being connected with the holy spirit. Self-control is not self-effort. It is not something you have to muster up in your own strength. Self-control is the fruit of your relationship with God. You have to make the decision whether or not to do your will (self-effort) or God’s will (self-control) because he is your creator. Choosing to do God’s will produces love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, self-control. Against such there is no law. When I choose his will, self-control, I am being governed by His Holy Spirit. But when I choose my will I am being governed by the flesh (carnality).

We were all huddled in the downstairs bedroom, a storm was brewing. At that moment I felt suction from the east window which was partially opened. I knew this must be it — a tornado for real. In an instant, it was all over.

I was recently at an event in my community, and someone asked me about my plans for summer break. It made me wonder if people know what we do in the summer at SCBDD, so I thought I would share a few highlights. Shelby Hills Preschool does close in the summer, but the rest of the SCBDD staff work year-round. In fact, we are often busier than ever throughout these summer months.

From the Wright brothers, to American heroes like John Glenn and Neil Armstrong, the story of modern aviation was written in Ohio. Today, our state continues to lead the country in aerospace innovation, and in military service.
