Sundays often full of blessings

I love Sundays; they bring their own sense of relaxation. Sundays at our house are set aside for more time with God and each other as a family. In a sense it’s much like a mini vacation; it gives us a breath of fresh air and rejuvenation for the week ahead. Isn’t it amazing that even God rested after six days of work? His example, coupled with teachings in the Scripture, gives us a day off with no feelings of guilt about all the work waiting for us.

Parable of the wedding banquet

Imagine you’ve received a personal invitation to a banquet at the White House from the President. You will be picked up at your house in a black limousine, driven to Vandalia, where you will board Air Force One to fly to Washington. How do you respond? “That’s next Saturday? I don’t know, Joe, I was going to harvest my cornfield that day.” Imagine the President is so concerned that you might not have the attire that he gives you a gift card for a tux or formal gown, but you don’t even bother to get the fancy threads. You show up at the White House in the ripped up jeans you love wearing while you farm.

Asking and granting forgiveness

“I was wrong.” Those are three words that just do not flow off our tongues very well. They seem to get stuck in our throat. When we do say them, we are often asked to repeat them since it comes as such a shock or surprise to some people. The other person wants to hear those words again, to make sure they heard correctly. But why are they such difficult words to say? I would guess that we do not want to be wrong or in the wrong. Each of us wants to be right. And when we are not right, we at least want to justify our reason and be self-righteous.
