Barhorsts celebrate 50th anniversary

FORT LORAMIE — Robert and Cynthia Barhorst will celebrate 50 years of marriage with reception for family and friends at the Fort Loramie American Legion, following a 5 p.m. mass. The couple asks that gifts be ommitted.

Robert and the former Cynthia Schaffner were married on a sunny, cold day on Jan. 10, 1970. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. John Brucker. The reception that followed was the first held in the new Saint Michael Hall.

Robert and Cynthia are the parents of Kimberly and Keith Engel, of Richwood, Staff Sgt. Robert Barhorst III, of Tacoma, Washington, and Anthony Barhorst, of Fort Loramie. They have seven grandchildren.

Robert is the son of the late Robert and Ruth Barhorts, of Fort Loramie. He is the brother of Betty and Larry Hoffman, of Mission Viejo, California, Connie Behnem, of New Carlisle, Nina and Ron Prenger, of Celina, and Lisa and Ken Everman, of Maria Stein.

Cynthia is the daughter of the late Forest and Wilma Shaffner. She is the sister of the late Jerrold Schaffner, of Sidney, and Steven and Deb Schaffner, of Ottawa.

The couple met at Al’s Place in Fort Loramie.

Robert retired from General Motors in Vandalia after 33 years. Cynthia is retired from Valley Eye Institute. They are members of St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie.

Robert enjoys sports and is a big fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and he especially enjoys watching his grandchildren in their sporting activities. He also enjoys traveling and spending time with friends. He is active in the Fort Loramie American Legion Post 355. Cynthia enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with their grandchildren and friends.
