BOTKINS — Stephen and Rita Monnin recently celebrated 50 years of marriage during mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church followed by a reception for the family and wedding party in the church basement.
Steve and the former Rita Heckman were married on Jan. 24, 1970, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood by the Rev. Robert Suver. They celebrated with a dinner and reception at the Osgood American Legion following the ceremony.
Steve and Rita are the parents of Tina and Dwaine Sosby, of Jackson Center, Chris and Heather Monnin, of Botkins, Brian and Kathy Monnin, of Wapakoneta, Jill and Tony Arnold, of Botkins, and Anthony and Julia Monnin, of New Knoxville. They have fifteen grandchildren.
Steve is the son of the late Francis and Mary Monnin, of Fort Loramie. He is the brother of Diana and John Hoying, of St. Henry, the late Pat Boerger and Denny Boerger, of Sidney, Bonnie and Joe Sturm, of Sidney, Rich Monnin, of De Graff, Mike and late Rosie Monnin, of Florida, Carl and Cindy Seger, of Minster, Jeff and Kendra Seger, of Newport, and Gary and Mary Beth Corbin, of Sidney.
Rita is the daughter of the late Amelia and Norbert Heckman, of Yorkshire. She is the sister of the late Martha Barhorst and Jerome Barhorst, of Fort Loramie, John and Maruja Heckman, of Clifton, Virginia, James Robert Heckman and the late Adele Heckman, of Indiana, Ann and Mike Kreitzer, of Mesquite, Arizona, Mary and Jerry Siegrist, of Sidney, Margie and Don Eilerman, of Fort Loramie, Joseph and Joyce Heckman, of Ringoes, New Jersey, Bill and Mary Beth Heckman, of Yorkshire, Kathy and John Geise, of Sidney, David and Karen Heckman, of Maria Stein, and the late Alice Heckman.
Witnesses to the wedding were maid of honor Ann (Heckman) Kreitzer, bridesmaids Martha Barhorst, Diana Hoying, Pat (Monnin) Boerger, Pat (Frilling) Boerger, and flower girl Mary Beth (Seger) Corbin. Rich Monnin served as best man along with groomsmen John Heckman, John Hoying, Ray Monnin, Ed Monnin, and Ronald DeLoye was ring bearer.
The couple met at the Crystal Ball Dance Hall in French Town.
Steve retired from Ford Motor Company in Lima after 35 years. Rita is retired from Botkins Local Schools. They are members of Immaculate Conception Church in Botkins.
Steve and Rita enjoy sports, and especially enjoy watching their grandchildren in their various sporting activities. They also enjoy going on bus trips and spending time with friends and family.
