Couple celebrates 50 years

NEW BREMEN — Larry and Mary Bensman, of New Bremen, will celebrate 50 years of marriage with a small family gathering for brunch on Sunday, April 18 at the New Bremen Bowling Alley.

Larry and the former Mary Freisthler were married on a warm, sunny spring day on April 17, 1971 in McCartyville. The rev. Clarence Diegelman officiated the ceremony. Witnesses to the wedding were Matron of Honor, Mrs. Larry Davidson, bridesmaids Judy McFlothen, Barb Stammen, Karen Luthman, Ruth Brookhart, best man John Beckman, and groomsmen Nick Bensman, Ken Bensman, and Donald Freisthler.

Larry and Mary are the parents of Amy and Jeff Becher, of Wapakoneta, Michelle and Mark Bell, of Wapakoneta, and Alan and Mindy Bensman, of Coldwater. They have eight grandchildren.

Mary is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Freisthler. She is the sister of Donald and Carolyn Freisthler, Sidney; Pat and Deb Freisthler, Anna; Karen and Dale Luthman, Russia; and George and Joyce Freisthler, Anna.

Larry is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bensman. He is the brother of Ken Bensman, New Bremen; Nick Bensman, New Bremen; the late James Bensman, the late Barbara Stammen, the late Judith McGlothen and the late Charles Bensman. His sisters-in-law are Karen Bensman, Pat Bensman, Kathy Stammen, Diane Bensman, and Cindy Bensman.

Mary taught kindergarten for many years and has worked as a substitute teacher. Larry worked at Minster Machine for 48 years.

The couple enjoys spending time with their children, grandchildren and friends.

They are members of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, in New Bremen.
