Dennis and the former Marty Simon were married July 24, 1965, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Denis Church in Versailles. The Rev. Edward Herb performed the ceremony on a hot, sunny day. Witnesses were maid of honor Mary Moran, the bride’s sister, and best man Bill Ahrens, the bridegroom’s brother. The couple had met through mutual friends.

Another sister, Betty Jones, and a brother-in-law, Dave “Red” Kremer, are deceased.

Marty is the daughter of the late Cletus and Cecelia (Subler) Simon. She has two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and John Moran, and Doris Subler, all of Versailles; and a brother and living sister-in-law, Denis and Polly Simon, of Versailles. Another sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Simon, is deceased.

The Ahrenses are the parents of a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Scott Ferguson, of Sidney, and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nick and Amy Ahrens, of Sidney, and Matt Ahrens, of Cookeville, Tennessee. They have five grandchildren.

The couple worked together for 20 years at Ahrens Custom Builders. Marty retired earlier this year from Sidney City Schools, where she was a cafeteria worker. Dennis is employed by Sidney City Schools as a bus driver.

They attend Holy Angels Church and enjoy spending time with family and watching their grandchildren’s activities. Dennis enjoys fishing with his grandsons. Marty enjoys gardening and reading.
