AnniversaryPerrys celebrate golden date

PIQUA — Mary and James “Jim” Perry, of Orange Township in Shelby County, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at a family dinner hosted by their children.

Jim and the former Mary Gudas were married, Feb. 3, 1968, in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pulaski, Indiana, by the Rev. C. B. Ernst. The couple enjoyed receptions in the American Legion hall for family and friends and the Pulaski Schoolhouse for Mary’s students and their families. They honeymooned in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Jim is the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Jane Perry.

Mary is the daughter of the late Joseph and Antonia Gudas.

The Perrys are the parents of three daughters and two sons-in-law, Theresa and Richard Whalen, of Prospect, Kentucky, Diana Perry and Matt Baker, of Lawrence, Kansas, and Michelle Perry Balleck, of Craig, Colorado; and a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Elizabeth Perry, of Casstown. They have nine grandchildren.

Jim served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. The couple has lived in Indiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Connecticut and Ohio.

Jim worked in manufacturing with Ingersoll Rand and Emerson Electric Co., retiring in 2009. Mary retired from Sidney City Schools in 2009 after 33 years of teaching in several states.

The couple enjoys working on their farmland in Ohio and Indiana, as well as traveling, gardening, antique farming equipment and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
