SIDNEY — Penny L. Simes and Eugene “Gene” V. Daley, both of Sidney, were united in marriage, June 1, 2018, in Tawawa Park in Sidney.

The bride is the daughter of Maxine and Lowell Simes, of Sidney.

The bridegroom is the son of Betty Daley, of Sidney, and the late Eugene V. Daley.

Pastor Kris Geise performed the ceremony. Dan Simes, brother of the bride, was the musician.

The bride wore a vintage cream-colored lace, button-down, cap-sleeved, floor-length gown over a cream-colored silk slip. She wore silk sunflowers and blue and white flowers in her hair and carried a bouquet of silk sunflowers, pink and blue roses, greenery and baby’s breath, wrapped with a cream-colored silk robbon. She carried a white hanky embroidered with a blue butterfly, which had been borrowed from the bridegroom’s mother.

A reception at the home of the bride’s parents followed the ceremony.

The couple honeymooned at Hollywood Gaming in Dayton and reside in Sidney.

The bride graduated from Sidney High School and Upper Valley Joint Vocational School in 1976 and is employed by Tyler Technologies Inc. in Moraine.

The bridegroom is a 1975 Sidney High School graduate and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is employed by Holloway Sportswear in Sidney.

The couple met at church when they were 14 and 15 and dated during high school. In 1975, they separated and eventually married others and started families. In 2014, they met again on Facebook and renewed the romance. Penny has the high school photo of Gene, which he signed in 1975, saying that he wanted to marry her “someday soon.” Forty-three years later, he did.
