JACKSON CENTER — Four student field trips were approved during the Jackson Center Board of Education’s regular meeting on Monday, March 19.

Permission was given for the second-grade extended-day field trip to the Columbus Zoo on May 4; for the third-grade extended-day field trip to COSI, in Columbus, on May 11; for the sixth-grade overnight field trip to Camp Wilson, outside of Bellefontaine, on April 30 through May 2; and for the FCCLA overnight field trip to to Columbus on April 26 and April 27.

The board passed a motion to approve spring sports volunteers Iesha Lampy, as volunteer assistant track coach, and Hannah Meyer, as volunteer assistant softball coach.

Updates were provided on the progress with the track and walking paths around the outside fields. Results of the scrap tire grant application are expected sometime in April and quotes on completing the base for the walking paths have been obtained.

Discussions and planning are on-going surrounding school safety and how to evolve, including completion of security cameras in locations that were put on hold during the project. These can now be completed due to a verbal donation commitment from Airstream.

Lastly, the school will be providing facts in April, via the school newsletter, civic group meetings and a couple open meetings, about the renewal of the existing 0.5 percent earned income tax that will be on the May ballot.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 16, at 7 p.m.
