CRIDERSVILLE — Offering the opportunity to discover the fun in local history, the Cridersville Historical Society will host a special open house event Sunday, Oct. 14, at its museum at 111 W. Sugar Street from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be guided tours of the museum exhibits, plus pioneer craft demonstrations of spinning, weaving, quilting, candle making, churning butter, and more. Museum volunteers will host vintage children’s games and activities. Guests will want to visit the Tasting Table with samples of old fashioned recipes of jellies, apple butter, applesauce, molasses, pickles, and more.

There will also be a presentation about the Shawnee tribes who once lived in this area. Their trail through the forest would later become Cridersville’s Main Street. Guests will hear stories about their lives in the forests that are now Allen and Auglaize Counties. Plus, there will be a chance to play a Shawnee-style big drum.

“Our goal for this special event is to make people aware of what the historical society does, how much fun it can be, and encourage them to consider becoming new members,” historical society president Greg Myers said. “We have spent 30 years telling the stories of our community and having fun doing it. We now need people and families joining in us in that work”, Myers added. “Considering our Shawnee presentation and the big drum, you might say we are hoping to drum up new members.”
