HOUSTON — Two officers for the Houston Athletic Boosters were honored during Friday night’s boys varsity basketball game between Houston and Fairlawn.

The Houston High School’s Administration and Athletic Department recognized two individuals — Michelle Garber and Kelly Via — who have made a significant impact on Houston athletics, said Superintendent Larry Claypool. Both are officers for the Houston Athletic Boosters and over the last several years have committed an extraordinary amount of personal family time to ensure the boosters are able to provide concession stand services for Houston sporting events.

Both Garber and Via are at nearly every athletic event and often times run the concession stand by themselves, said Claypool.

“Their selfless service is a significant reason why our athletic program can be provided with state-of-the-art equipment and our district and visiting guest fans have the concession services they deserve,” he said.

While junior high/high school Principal Ryan Maier read the announcement over the PA system the Houston and visiting Fairlawn fans stood and applauded the presentation. At center court, Houston’s Athletic Director, Craig Knouff presented both Garber and Via with plaques that read, “In Recognition of Your Dedication & Hard Work as a Member of the Houston Athletic Boosters.”

“It was a wonderful surprise and I thank the district and athletic department for this unexpected recognition,” said Garber after the presentation.

Kelly Via said, “I was shocked,” said Via. “The plaque and presentation was totally unexpected. Thank you!”

The Hardin-Houston Board of Education and administration is also acknowledging all the parents who volunteer to support the district’s various athletic and academic booster groups.
