SIDNEY — In 2016 the Sidney Shelby County Gateway Lodge 138 has continued to support the community by making donations to several organizations throughout Sidney and Shelby County.

“Our largest event of the year is always Shop with a Cop,” said Warren Melerine, treasurer. “Each year we gather donations from the residents and businesses of Shelby County and we have the pleasure of taking approximately 75 children shopping at Walmart in Sidney. Each child is given $150 to spend on clothing, personal items and some sort of game or toy.”

His report continues:

This year we also made our second installment of three for $5,000 to New Choices for the renovations that are going on at their facility.

Other donations included:

• 10 $500 Fraternal Order of Police Scholarships

• Local sports teams $1250

• Sidney Dance Company, $250

• Shelby County DARE, $1,000

• Sidney Police Department Safety Town Program, $1,000

• Community dinners, $1,500

• Shelby County Fair, $500

• Girl Scouts, $500

• YMCA Special Needs Cheerleading Team, $2,500

We also had families in Shelby County that had family emergencies in 2016 and a total of $2,000 was donated to those families for emergency assistance.

Again we would like to thank the citizens of Sidney and Shelby County for your continued support, without the communities support none of this would be possible. A total of $35,200 was given back to the community.
