Wild about freshwater mussels workshop

COLUMBUS — A workshop about freshwater mussels found in central Ohio waterways will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park Nature Center located at 1775 Darby Creek Drive, Galloway, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For a registration fee of only $20 (includes lunch), researchers and education professionals will share freshwater mussel biology, identification, and threats to mussel populations through formal presentations and hands-on opportunities. In the afternoon, participants will explore the waters of scenic Darby Creek putting their newfound knowledge to use searching for mussels.

This workshop is hands on and will take place outdoors. Dress appropriately and be prepared to get wet. Items to bring include sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, soft-soled shoes or sandals with heel straps, towel, a dry change of clothes and a drink. No glass drinking bottles are permitted.
