SIDNEY — The grand jury has indicted the man who caused a two-car crash at the intersection of North Miami Avenue and Court Street and caused a fire at the Shelby County Board of Elections.

Dante Bradford, 28, 4050 Reading Road, Cincinnati, was arrested June 22, after he was pursued from mile-marker 99 on Interstate 75, exited the interstate at exit I-94 and headed towards downtown Sidney. Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Ed Garrett was westbound near the Shelby County Fairgrounds on Fair Road when he saw Bradford’s vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Bradford drove across the yellow center line as he approached Garrett’s cruiser in the other lane, forcing him to take “necessary measures” to avoid being struck; Garrett then pursued Bradford.

Bradford collided with an eastbound vehicle on Court Street at the intersection of Miami Avenue and then struck a utility pole, causing stress on the power lines and eventually a fire in the nearby Board of Elections building. He also damaged the apartment building at 302 E. Court St. Bradford fled on foot from the scene of the crash and was apprehended and transported to Wilson Health.

Bradford has been indicted on charges of felonious assault, failure to comply with order or signal of police, failure to stop after an accident and driving under financial responsibility-law suspension.

As the Sidney Daily News reported in Junem the Board of Elections building sustained extensive damage to rafters, internal wiring and computer lines connected the office of the secretary of state.
