FORT LORAMIE — Thanks to Boy Scout Charles Wray, of Fort Loramie, St. Michael’s Catholic Church has a new flagpole, garden and automatic lighting.
Wray, son of Brenda and Chad Wray, raised money to fund the project and completed the work of installation to earn his Eagle Scout award.
The 25-foot-high flagpole was dedicated to veterans and current and future military members. A blessing ceremony took place July 23, with the Rev. Steve Shoup presiding.
Wray is a member of Troop No. 355 of Fort Loramie. He had help from fellow scouts and his parents. Ed Luthman, of Luthman Concrete, and Craig Boerger, of Boerger Electric, donated their services.
The project was funded with a grant by Walmart and monies raised at a spaghetti dinner Wray hosted. Garmann Miller, Freshway Foods, the Spot, Winners Meat Market, of Osgood, McDonalds, of Minster, and Dannon, of Minster, made in-kind donations in support of the dinner.
“Fundraising was last fall. Planning began in April, and installation started at the end of June,” Wray, a junior at Fort Loramie High School, said.
