Drug dealer sentenced to year in prison

SIDNEY — An Orient man was sentenced, Aug. 1, to a year in prison following his arrest during a drug raid, Oct. 5, 2016.

Michael Lewis, 36, was indicted on charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs, trafficking in drugs and tampering with evidence on Oct. 13, 2016. His indictment states that he had fentanyl and methamphetamine, both of which he tried to flush down a toilet.

He was sentenced to a year in state prison, to run consecutive to the sentence he is currently serving from Scioto County, where he was convicted of trafficking in drugs, possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools.

The Sidney/Piqua Tactical Response Team executed a search warrant at 434 1/2 N. Miami Ave. to look for narcotics, when Lewis ran to the bathroom and attempted to flush a large quantity of drugs, including 101 caps of fentanyl. The residence is rented to David Copeland, 27, and Alisha Croft, 28.

Copeland was charged with possession of drugs and permitting drug abuse and was sentenced to five years probation. He then violated his probation and was sent to the Alvis House in Columbus. He then violated his probation again and is currently in the Shelby County Jail with bond set at $5,000.

Croft was charged with permitting drug abuse. She was sentenced to 120 days in jail and fined $200 on Jan. 25.

Trinton Woods, 29, of Dayton, was also arrested during the raid. He is suspected of selling fentanyl and methamphetamine out of the residence. He was sentenced to 17 months in prison and fined $300 on April 3.
