Fort Loramie BOE gets AIR scores

FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Loramie Board of Education reviewed the newly released American Institutes for Research scores during its Aug. 21 meeting.

The high school missed three indicators, as well as the gifted indicator, on the report card. High school Principal Kreg Hollenbacher noted that this may be because the state standard has increased to 80 percent, and that many surrounding districts also missed two or three indicators.

Test scores overall improved from last year, with 10 of 12 areas rated improved or the same. The score for American History, one of the areas that did not improve, fell by one percentage point with 50 more students testing than the previous year. American History still met the state standard.

Fort Loramie Local School’s performance index rose 3.6 points from last year, with 75 percent of students testing above proficient.

The board took several actions including:

• Hiring Melissa Frey, Donald Holthaus, Vern Seger, Kathleen Siegel and Julie Theis as substitute school bus/van drivers/cafeteria workers and Kathy Metz as the safety patrol.

• Approving $12,696 for bonding and tree and stump removal by the Shinn Bros. Inc. for the parking lot construction project.

• Approving the tuition rate of $5,806.99, which is down $48.02 from last year.

• Approving the rate of $20 an hour for athletic event-management of events for which the athletic director requires assistance. The rate is the same as last year and the option hasn’t been used since 2009.

• Approving regular bus routes.

•Approving use of the school van for transportation of four special education students to off-campus programming, noting the impracticality of using a bus.

• Approving the rental agreement with Christian Education from Aug. 21, 2017, through June 1, 2018, and with St. Michael’s education program at a rate of $300, which is the same as last year.

• Approving Shannon Swank’s change in the salary schedule, as she has received advanced training.

• Approving Kathleen Eilerman as swimming coach volunteer.

• Approving Hannah Pleiman and Thomas Birkmeyer as tuition students.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
