Tuesday jury trials dismissed, rescheduled

SIDNEY — Two jury trials that were set to take place Tuesday morning in the Shelby County Court of Common Pleas did not occur.

The first trial was against Jeffery Eichelberger, 32, of Sidney. He is charged with aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools, with a specification of $244 cash prosecutors believe were obtained from selling methamphetamine.

Eichelberger appeared late for his court date and appeared unruly during court by speaking over the judge, threatening to fire his lawyer and complaining of being railroaded through the system. His trial will be rescheduled, and he was taken to the Shelby County Jail after Judge James Stevenson ordered his bond be raised to $15,000.

The second trial was against Brandon Smith, 35, 710 Taft St. He was charged with domestic violence, but following the grand jury indictment, the victim moved and was not communicating with prosecutors. The case was dismissed without prejudice due to the victim not being willing to testify.
