JTDMH receives Susan G. Komen grant

Joint Township District Memorial Hospital has been awarded a grant from Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio for a new breast health program, “Taking Care of You”.

This new program will expand efforts to educate and provide screening mammograms to an increased number of women in Auglaize, Mercer and Shelby counties.

By working in collaboration with community partners, West Ohio X-ray, Grand Lake Physician Practices, Allen and Auglaize County Health Departments, AGAPE Ministries, the Grand Lake Regional Cancer Center, and Wright State University, the “Taking Care of You” program is aimed at educating women about the importance of breast health and the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

This grant will address access to service and education in high risk areas through direct contact with women. The “Taking Care of You” program will provide for the underinsured and underserved women of this region. Women who qualify will be provided a free screening mammogram.

The American Cancer Society recommends that women, age 40 and older, should have a mammogram every year and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health. Denise Pugh, Manager of Medical Imaging states, “This grant has the opportunity to touch many lives. We are very appreciative to Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio for this grant and assisting us take care of women in the communities we serve.”

Detecting cancer at the earliest stages improves survival rates and saves lives. If you are a woman who does not have insurance or the financial resources to pay for a screening mammogram, the “Taking Care of You” program can help. Please call Joint Township District Memorial Hospital at 419-394-9599 to see if you qualify for a FREE screening mammogram.
