Shelby County Genealogical Society to host Family Finder workshop

SIDNEY — The Shelby County Genealogical Society and the Shelby County Historical Society will present the Family Finder Workshop, April 8, in the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 W. Water St.

The workshop will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m., with a lunch break from noon to 1:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $15 is registration is completed by April 1; $20 for walk-ins. Advance registration can be made by mailing the fee and information including the registrant’s name, addess, email address and phone number to Shelby County Genealogy Society, 5813 S. Knoop-Johnston Road, Sidney, OH 45365.

The featured speaker will be Amie Bowser Tennant, content creator for the Genealogy Gems podcast.

The morning session will feature topics, “Finding Answers in Naaturalization Records” and “Rooting Out Your Native American Ancestry.” The afternoon sessions will be “Tech-Savvy Sccrapbooking and Journaling for Family History” and “‘Deed’ You Hear about These Underutilized Records?”

Tennant has been a national speaker and international blogger about genealogy and history. She was awarded the National Genealogical Society Home Study Scholarship for American genealogy in 2011, was lead content specialist for RootsBid.com from 2015 to 2016, has served as recording secretary of the Miami County Historical and Genealogical Society and newsletter editor of Miami Meanderings.
