SIDNEY — The Shelby County Animal Rescue Foundation (SCARF) will conduct a shoe collection drive from March 24 through May 15.

The “Stepping into the Future” drive will support SCARF’s efforts to fund the construction of a new animal shelter in Shelby Coutny.

SCARF will earn funds based on the number of pairs of shoes collected. Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods and then distribute the shoes to its microenterprise partners in Central America and Africa. Those partners will sell the shoes in their home countries and use the profits to feed, clothe and house their families.

Gently worn, used or new shoes can be dropped off at Shoe Sensation, 2350 Michigan St., the Senior Center, 304 S. West Ave., and Ron and Nita’s, 134 S. Main

“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said SCARF Vice President Julie Ehemann.

“We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone,” added SCARF President Eric Barr.
