Deadline nears for Senior Day tickets

SIDNEY — Shelby County will celebrate Senior Citizens’ Day, May 16, in Sidney with a luncheon and entertainment in the American Legion hall, 1265 Fourth Ave.

The deadline to reserve tickets by calling 492-5266 is May 9. Tickets cost $5.

The event is open to the public and is intended as an opportunity to celebrate the important role older Ohioans play and to thank them for their contributions and accomplishments. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with the luncheon to follow.

Shelia Nuss, chairwoman of the organizing committee, said the highlight of the day will be the announcement of the Shelby County Senior Citizen of the Year and the outstanding organization. Entertainment will be provided by Adam Jacomet.

Each May, Ohio and the nation celebrate Older Americans Month, with Senior Citizens Day. Ohio’s theme for the celebration this year, established by the state Department of Aging, is “Age Out Loud.”

Members of the committee are Robin Burleson, Adrienne Fortkamp, Linsey Johnson, Stefanie Hale, Rachael Hale, Marianne Helmlinger, Molly Helmlinger, Jenny Huelskamp, Betty Hughes, Hallie Hurley, Tilda Philpot, Darla Wilges and Eileen Wiseman.
