Civic Band offers crowd-pleasers

SIDNEY — The Sidney Civic Band will perform “Crowd Pleasers and Toe Tappers,” Friday, June 22, at 7 p.m., on the courtsquare, in downtown Sidney.

Admission is free. Attendees should take lawn chairs.

“The idea for this concert was to keep the selections short, fun, and popular,” said Sidney Civic Band Conductor Phil Chilcote. “The band will be performing music from our favorite composers: some marches, blues, a little Latin and little jazz — just fun music to play and to listen to.” Some of the pieces include “Funiculi Funicula,” “Jazz Pizzicato,” “Opus One” and “The Latin Hustle.”

As a special mentoring opportunity, the Civic Band will again integrate music students from local high schools into their ensemble, giving the students valuable experience with sight-reading performance pieces and playing alongside seasoned musicians.

Refreshments will be available for purchase from the Connection Point Church of God Relay for Life team beginning 30 minutes prior to the concert. A Spot pie will be given away to the winner of a random drawing trivia question. In case of rain, the concert will be at the Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road.
