Civic Band to play marches, medleys

SIDNEY — The Sidney Civic Band will perform a free concert, “Medleys & Marches,” on the downtown Sidney courthouse square, Friday, June 29 at 7 p.m.

“Tonight we strive to bring new music to the concert, but in a recognizable format,” said Sidney Civic Band conductor Phil Chilcote. “I’ve chosen new medleys of familiar music such as ‘The Mikado Overture,’ (music by) Mancini, great movie marches, (songs sung by) Elvis, ‘Tijuana Brass in Concert’ and the Temptations. I pulled some great marches that may be less well known, but that are really wonderful. The concert will feature our talented brass section in ‘Brass Aflame’ and ‘Burnished Brass’ both by Cacavas, ‘The Grand Marshal March’ by Red Skelton, ‘March from the Second Suite’ by Holst and, rounding out our selections, the ‘Sunburst Concert March’ by Olstering. I would also like to thank our guest conductors, Elaine Schweller-Snyder and Tod Huston, for their invaluable assistance this concert season.”

Refreshments will be available for purchase from the Connection Point Church of God Relay for Life team beginning 30 minutes prior to the free concerts. Two Spot pies will be given away to the winners of a random drawing trivia question.

Attendees should take lawn chairs.
