SIDNEY — The local ham radio group has announced a beginners training class.

This will allow people who have an interest in helping serve their community to get started.

The deadline to register is Wednesday, Feb. 13, at noon. Training sessions are scheduled for Feb. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Feb. 23 form 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the EMA Building, 800 Fair Road. The class fee is $30.

The two-session training course will cover topics needed to pass the test for a ham radio technician license. This license allows for all VHF/UHF amateur bands (frequencies above 30 MHz) and limited operations in certain HF bands.

The test will immediately follow the training. If there is enough need, a second testing session may be Feb. 24.
