Dec. 17, 1915

The local champion Invincibles basketball team, with their regular lineup in action, rather easily defeated the crack Wapakoneta Reds at the Armory last evening by the score of 51 to 24. Members of the local team were: P. Smith, E. Berger and A. Smith at the forwards; Eccles, center, F. Shea, B. Smith and Kimble at the guards. Eccles led the scorers with 18 points, while P. Smith had 15.

75 years

Dec. 17, 1940

Federal Judge Robert R. Nevin, Dayton, today directed O.S. Kenny, receiver for the Wagner Brewing Co. on East Poplar St., to sell the brewery for $42,000 by Feb. 15, 1941. If no offer is received by that date, the receiver was ordered to dispose of the operation at an auction on March 1, 1941. The brewery has been in the hands of the receiver for the past two years. Although several attempts have been made to revive the brewery in that time, each time negotiations failed to materialize.

William Ross Jr., and Bruce McClellan, students at Castle Heights, Lebanon, Tenn., have arrived home to spend their holiday vacation with their parents.

Dec. 17, 1965

A circular seeking applicants for firemen in the Sidney Fire Department states that the base pay for that position has been raised from $4,600 to $4,800. The request for such action had been presented as a part of the department’s annual budget to city council by Fire Chief Vernon Millhoff recently.

COLUMBUS – Ohio State University President Novice G. Fawcett today asked the university trustees to abandon plans to build him a controversial $500,000 home following public furor created by the trustees’ Dec. 9 announcement of plans to build the mansion.

They were among elementary, junior high and high school students who participated in a “Christmas in Song” program held Sunday afternoon at the school gymnasium. The vocal and instrumental selections ranged from novelty tunes to favorite carols.
