The Ohio Spoke and Bending Co. has been incorporated at Botkins, with a capital stock of $40,000. The incorporators are: H.E. Sheets, F.S. Sheets, Clara Sheets, Helen S. Sheets, and Philip Sheets.

Dec. 31, 1940

Branding as a “stupid and infamous lie” the charge of President Roosevelt that Germany seeks world conquest, Reichsfuehrer Adolf Hitler today prepared the German army and people for another year of war and predicted a sweeping Nazi victory by the end of 1941.

50 years

Dec. 31, 1965

Hobart (Bill) Sarver dislikes the word “orphanage” very much. Nor does he care for “institution.” The reason, of course, is plain. Sarver is superintendent of the Shelby County Children’s Home and he, his wife and their aides are trying to make it a REAL home for the 26 boys and girls presently housed there.

Dec. 31, 1990

JACKSON CENTER — The Rev. Roger K. McQuistion has been named new associate pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, said the Rev. Thomas Frey, church pastor. A native of Tiffin, McQuistion, 31, is pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles. He was assigned that church – his first pastorship – in 1986 after being ordained in his home church, First Lutheran Church of Tiffin. He holds a divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus.

The Rev. and Mrs. James K. Bricker were among 31 people named missionaries by the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Charlottesville, Va. Rev. Bricker is a Sidney native. The Brickers will live in France, where Bricker will initiate Southern Baptist work among Muslims and the couple will be involved in a variety of outreach ministries. Born and reared in Sidney, Bricker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bricker of Sidney.
