Feb. 8, 1916

The employees of the Monarch Machine & Tool Company held a meeting yesterday and organized the Monarch Mutual Aid Association. The organization has been formed to protect employees, in the case of accident, sickness and death. Benefits will be paid in each case. There were 118 employees who joined the association. Charlie Buehler was named president, Philber Abe, vice-president and Carl Berger, secretary-treasurer.

Martin Quinlisk, presently serving as Shelby County representative in the General Assembly has announced his candidacy for the State Senate to succeed Senator A.R. Garver. Mr. Quinlisk has served two terms in the lower house and was active in the anti-conservancy movement.

Feb. 8, 1941

A new Oldsmobile dealer has been named for Sidney. He is Al Young, formerly of Springfield, and the firm will operate under the name of Al Young Motor Sales. At the present time the company is located in the former Faulder Studebaker sales room, but after Feb. 24 will occupy rooms now being used by Al Bruken Motor Sales on North Main Avenue.

A “runaway” truck and trailer caused considerable excitement and damage at the corner of West avenue and North street this morning. Two parked vehicles belonging to Kenneth Graver and Elmer Roberts, employees of Shelby Motor Co. were extensively damaged when the truck belonging to Burnside Motor Transport rolled into the two vehicles. Apparently the brakes failed on the Burnside Truck.

Feb. 8, 1966

The appointments of Louis Kritzer and Charles Cole as vice-presidents of Monarch Machine & Tool Co. were announced today by Kermit Kuck, president of Monarch following a meeting of the board of directors. Kritzer has been associated with Monarch since 1933 where he began service in the Tool Room. Cole joined Monarch in 1956 as an industrial engineer.

The magic of electric light and the countless ways it transforms everyday life and brightens the future was described to members of the Kawanis Club at their meeting Wednesday at Johnson’s Banquet House. Herbert Schlater, president of the club and Wayne Rickey of the Dayton Power and Light Company, teamed up to give the presentation in recognition of National Electric Week currently being observed.

As the war in the Mideast intensifies and the world marvels at the high-tech weaponry of the American forces some local workers are sharing in the satisfaction over its effectiveness . A number of local companies have been involved in making some of the weaponry , along with support materials used in the war.

Seventh grader John Chilcote is the winner of the Bridgeview Middle School Geography bee held Tuesday at school. He won a book, a map and a globe and may now take a written test to qualify for the state geography bee. State winners advance to the national competition. The geography bee is sponsored by the National Geography Society. Chilcote is the son of Philip Chilcote and Janice Chilcote.
