SIDNEY — Speed is believed to be a factor in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on South Ohio Avenue, according to Sidney Police. CareFlight was called to transport one person after three people were injured in the crash.

Sidney Police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of South Ohio Avenue just after 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18, for a two-vehicle crash with possible injuries.

Police said a white Ford Explorer and a blue Chrysler minivan were traveling southbound on South Ohio Avenue when the minivan was rear-ended by the Explorer, causing both drivers to lose control.

One person from the Explorer and two people from the minivan were taken to Wilson Health by Sidney Medics. One person in the minivan was later flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Their names and conditions have not been released. Sidney Police said one of the occupants of the minivan had to be extricated from the wreckage. A dog riding in the Explorer was not hurt.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. A third vehicle had minor damage from crash debris. The crash also severed a utility pole and caused significant structural damage to a cinder block garage, both on the east side of the roadway.

The downed utility lines caused about 15 DP&L customers to lose power. Ohio Avenue was shut down for a few hours while the crash was investigated and reconstructed by Sidney Police and the wreckage cleared.

At this time the crash remains under investigation by the Sidney Police Department.
