ANNA — Anna Elementary celebrated Veterans Day with music this year.

As veterans and community members filled the multipurpose area in Anna Elementary School they were greeted by colorful decorations made by the art classes.

After a brief introduction by Principal John Holtzapple and Guidance Counselor Marlene Watkins, military members from the Piqua Recruiting Station presented a flag folding ceremony.

“Memories created on days like today will stay with these students forever,” Watkins said.

Music Teacher Jenna Freisthler then lead the students in song. The first graders sang “This is my Country”. The second graders sang “This Land is Your Land”. The third grade sang “God Bless America” with help from Freisthler. The fourth and fifth graders sang “Thank you Soldiers”. Performances by the high school and middle school choirs were also included in the program.

Each branch of the military was recognized in the singing of all the branches songs. Veterans in the audience were asked to stand if able when they heard their song, to be thanked. At the end, students passed out veteran car stickers to each of the veterans in attendance.
