Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart, center, hands Korean War veteran Phil Cummons, a slice of pie, as WWII veteran Jim Brackney, far left, and Jeff Cummons, far right, all of Jackson Center watch during the Community Thanksgiving Dinner held at the Jackson Center American Legion Sunday, Nov. 22. The community dinner started last year and became an instant hit. 425 meals were served during the event this year. The Mayor of Jackson Center and the Shelby County Commissioners were some of the local celebrities that brought people their food. Jackson Center students sang and danced as people ate. The idea for the community dinner was Dave Detrick’s, of Jackson Center, who says his wife Kay Detrick did most of the leg work organizing the event. Donations were taken that will go to people who need help paying utilities and to a local food pantry. Luke Gronneberg | Sidney Daily News
