SIDNEY — Blessid Union of Souls, the alternative rock, double platinum winning group is slated to headline the first Backstage Block Party concert in the series on Saturday, June 23. The outdoor event will also include Kala Rose & Saving Escape and the local band Monkey Wrench as opening acts.
Blessid Union of Souls , of Morrow, Ohio, is known for their hits like “I Believe” and “Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me for Me)” and brings energy and excitement to the stage. This rockin’ group headlined last year’s third concert in the series and brought in the biggest crowd. They have had one gold and two platinum albums and their music can be found in many TV shows and movies.
Saving Escape is a rock band comprised of late teen players and fronted by vocalist Kala Rose. The group started as a basement project in 2014. The band, who at the time were mutual friends and students of the O’Keefe Music Foundation, decided to take their lessons one step further. Writing their own music became an undying passion, drawing inspiration from some of the most prominent rock bands in history. Their sound is a mix of bluesy riffs, thunderous bass and drums, and penetrating vocals.
MonkeyWrench covers upbeat, radio-friendly Rock from the 70s to today, with an emphasis on 90s Rock. Their motto is: “Grab some friends. Grab some beverages. Rock with MonkeyWrench!” MonkeyWrench hails from the Sidney area, and is excited to put on a great performance to support Raise the Roof for the Arts and the Sidney Theatre!
The show starts at 6 p.m. in the parking lot behind The Historic Sidney Theatre and Sidney Post Office. The block party will begin selling food and beverages at 5:30 p.m. You must have proper ID in order to purchase any alcoholic beverage.
The blocked off concert area will have food and beverages, including alcoholic drinks for attendees over 21 years of age.
The concert series will be held on Saturday, June 23, Saturday, July 28, and Saturday, Aug. 25.
